Sustainability and effective waste management are among the key challenges facing modern cities. Gliwice addressed this challenge by transforming the area surrounding a former landfill site into an innovative Environmental Education Centre (CEE). Developed by the municipal waste management company Przedsiębiorstwo Zagospodarowania Odpadów (PZO), the project serves as a model example of combining practical infrastructure with educational value.
The Environmental Education Centre is one of the components of PZO, alongside the Municipal Selective Waste Collection Point (PSZOK). Few would expect a waste management facility to set new standards in environmental awareness and education, offering interactive experiences for schools, families and local communities. Yet this was precisely the vision behind the CEE in Gliwice. With this goal in mind, A+V was tasked with designing and implementing multimedia systems that would communicate knowledge in the most engaging and accessible way possible.
In line with the creative concept developed by Vidifilm, A+V designed and implemented a comprehensive audiovisual solution comprising a sound system, LED displays, transparent touchscreens, projectors with projection screens, and a central control system.
This futuristic Environmental Education Centre in Gliwice has been designed to meet the needs of all visitors, regardless of age, mobility or individual abilities. Thanks to engaging audiovisual technologies, the CEE demonstrates that environmental education is not only important but can also be genuinely exciting. As Confucius famously said: Tell me and I will forget. Show me and I will remember. Involve me and I will understand.
The final result is a multimedia exhibition that brings the Centre to life. Industrial infrastructure, education, interactive entertainment and conference facilities coexist seamlessly thanks to advanced audiovisual systems and modern LED technologies. It is an outstanding example of how a municipal facility can be transformed into a vibrant, commercially viable space built around a meaningful educational mission.
Here, practice meets theory, and everyday waste sorting becomes a fascinating journey towards a more sustainable future. The project proves that environmental innovation and modern technology can go hand in hand.
Interactive multimedia is at the heart of our Centre. Today, it is difficult to imagine education without modern technology, and thanks to A+V, we have been able to create an exhibition that meets European standards. The multimedia-driven format helps us capture visitors’ attention while presenting key information in an engaging and accessible way, which was the primary objective of the project – says Monika Niemczyk, Head of the Education and Marketing Centre at PZO.
