Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum

CHALLENGE

The Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum is an international project, led by Yad Vashem (The World Holocaust Remembrance Center), devoted to the memory of the Jews who died during World War II.
We were the only team from Poland appointed for this task. The task was very difficult for a number of reasons, the most important of which was the fact that there is hardly any other matter more important for Jews than the Holocaust.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

The exhibition was divided into several galleries. They are devoted to, inter alia, the life of Jews before the war, the ideology of German Nazis and extermination of Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe. We equipped individual galleries with AV features. The most interesting of these are:

360-degree projection (on 4 walls) of everyday life before the war, using fourteen Optoma projectors. Projector-generated images (through edge blending) to form one omnidirectional projection.
Video system supported by a multi-zone audio system.
Horizontal row of eight 22” Samsung LCD monitors, showing synchronized images against the map of extermination of Jews.
A room with five ceiling-mounted projection screens on special racks and Optoma Short Throw projectors. The whole set is supported by a multi-zone audio system.
The Learning Center is equipped with a server and twenty workstations based on all-in-one Lenovo computers for browsing the information database.

Central machines were placed in racks located in technical rooms. AV signals are transmitted using Kramer transmission systems, using twisted pair cables. The whole exhibition (multimedia and lighting) is controlled by means of the Crestron system.

END RESULT

13 June 2013 saw the opening of “Shoah”, a new national exhibition at the Oświęcim museum. The opening ceremony was attended by Israeli Prime Minister Beniamin Netanyahu and Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage Bogdan Zdrojewski. Holocaust survivors were the honorary guests of the ceremony. The exhibition was made available to the public.
